Chapter Spotlight: Pi Kappa Alpha at Arizona (Gamma Delta chapter)

Let’s face the facts: ChapterBoard chapters are freaking awesome! This past summer time meant convention time, and it was great to hear that so many of our chapters took home national awards and recognitions this year. Among them, we’d like to give a giant congratulations to the Pi Kappa Alpha brothers of the Gamma Delta chapter at the University of Arizona.

Gamma Delta garnered multiple awards at the Pike International Convention this summer including awards for recruitment, chapter management, chapter excellence, alumni advisory board, and convention attendance (impressive since the Pike convention was held in Texas). While you might be thinking “this is pretty good but not feature worthy”, we at ChapterBoard wholeheartedly beg to disagree. Gamma Delta accomplished all this (and more) in its very first year after rechartering in August 2009. Yes, you heard right, their very first, inaugural, true-freshman status, in-the-words-of-Madonna “like a virgin”, year as an active chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha. Don’t worry, we were impressed, and a little jealous, too.

With a Fall class of 66 brand spanking new members, the Gamma Delta chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha boasts a chapter roster of 177 men, making them the largest house at Arizona. Their members hold prominent leadership positions on campus such as on the Executive Council of IFC and a totally ambiguous position known as the President of the Student Body. Impressed again? Hold your breath because there’s more. Gamma Delta also put on two philanthropic events during the school year: their Pikes for Tykes toy drive that collected over 1,400 toys ($10,000 value) for children of the Tucson community, and their first annual Pike Firefighters Challenge that raised over $19,000 for the Tucson Fire Department. Ok, now you can breathe again… but you might want to wipe the drool off your face.

ChapterBoard was thoroughly impressed by the Pikes of Arizona and their accomplishments, not to mention that we love the whole unknown-underdog-who-shocks-everyone story, it’s so very Glee-esque (yes, we’re fans - don’t hate). Gamma Delta is certainly a contender to be reckoned with on the Arizona campus and, while we can only guess as to how they’ve done so much so quickly, ChapterBoard is very proud to call Gamma Delta one of the family.

Congratulations Pi Kappa Alpha - Gamma Delta chapter! We know you have much more stashed up those garnet and gold Pike sleeves and all we can say is, Arizona Greek life, we hope you’re ready!

Chapter Spotlight: Pi Kappa Alpha at UC Irvine (Lambda Lambda chapter)

With the new school year beginning and Greeks across the country back in the swing of things, we thought it’d be nice to spotlight one of the ChapterBoard chapters and their recent accomplishments.

Chartered only six years ago in 2004 the brothers of Lambda Lambda have become a house to be reckoned with and a chapter with definite staying power. On campus at UC Irvine, Lambda Lambda has continued its short but proud tradition of being one of the top houses in the Greek system. Pikes took home three sports championships this past year (bowling, ultimate frisbee and swimming), placed in every IFC sport including soccer, flag football and volleyball, and were runners up for the coveted IFC Sports Trophy.

Lambda Lambda took home second place in the annual SongFest philanthropy (paired with the ladies of Sigma Kappa sorority), and placed first in the Pi Beta Phi Arrowdaze philanthropy soccer tournament. Pike also placed first in Sigma Kappa’s Ultra Violet philanthropy, and second in Gamma Phi Beta’s Crescent Classic philanthropy. In addition to their philanthropic side, Lambda Lambda proved they have the social chops of a top house. The Lambda Lambda men put on a successful week-long event, much to the enjoyment of the UC Irvine sorority chapters, that culminated in their annual Pikes of the Caribbean party with approximately 1,200 people in attendance.

Over the summer, Lambda Lambda took home their fourth consecutive Smythe trophy, an award given by Pi Kappa Alpha international headquarters to the top 5% of Pike chapters across the nation. Additionally, Lambda Lambda took home a chapter excellence award as well as a chapter recognition award for their 131 man chapter.

Congratulations to the brothers of Lambda Lambda! We’re very proud of all you’ve accomplished so far, and we can’t wait to see what you do next!

New features! New features! Read all about it! No, but seriously, keep reading…ChapterBoard is very proud to announce the launch of our new group text messaging system. With group text messaging, chapter execs can now message the entire chapter straight from their phone! And yes, it gets even better. Not only can you message the entire chapter, but you can also message specific groups within the chapter too. Need to remind your execs about arriving early at meeting? Forgot to tell the flag football team their game was moved up an hour? Need to coordinate the pledges for a surprise performance of Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance” at Delta Gamma’s Anchorsplash? Now you can without bothering the entire chapter. And like everything else with ChapterBoard, group text messaging is completely free to use. Yes, we said free, as in you and your chapter don’t pay a penny. All we ask is that you spend the extra money on something worth while, like gold-plated rush shirts or a Muse concert at your philanthropy… and don’t forget to invite us either. If you’ve been on ChapterBoard within the last 12 hours, and we certainly hope you have, you’ll notice a subtle change in the display. Along with the group text messaging, we also launched a new color scheme to the site. The new, less contrasting colors are meant to make browsing easier on your eyes and, let’s be completely honest, keep you on ChapterBoard longer. Yes, we’re utterly shameless and quite proud of it.We hope you like the new features and continue to use ChapterBoard as fiercely as you have. If you have yet to receive a text message from your chapter please, for our sake and the sake of your chapter, tell your chapter executives to get their ish straight and start texting! And of course, if you have any questions, comments, job inquiries (yes, our team is awesome with a capitol A), or just want to obsess over the new season of Glee, contact us! And be sure to keep up with us here, on our blog, and on Facebook. October is going to be a very busy and exciting month for ChapterBoard, and not just because we love Oktoberfest!

The past few weeks have been a development marathon for the ChapterBoard team with late nights, little sleep, and, inevitably, lots of take out food. We’re tired, worn out, and hinging on PHP-induced insanity, but we’re extremely happy to announce our newest (and definitely not the last) feature to ChapterBoard: the Forum search tool! Our users have suggested and requested this feature many times and, believe it or not, we listened!!
Now users can search through the Forum and find specific topics, comments and polls in seconds. Can’t remember where the Greek Week booth is? Need to know who signed up last week for the philanthropy? Find what you need in less time than it takes to update your Facebook status.
Have thoughts? Suggestions? General words of praise and reverence? Whatever it is, we want to hear it! And be sure to stay tuned because our development marathon isn’t done yet (our team says with a painful sigh). We’ve got a few more surprises up our sleeves and trust us, you ain’t seen nothing yet!

New Features Launched

Today we’re announcing a few new features that we’re really excited about and hope you are too:

Recruitment Tools
The problem with recruitment? You have opinions about potential new members but between recruitment retreat, the start of school, and actually going to recruitment events, there’s no time to share! Enter, ChapterBoard and our awesome developers. For every potential new member on ChapterBoard, you can now show your support with just a click of the mouse. Our new “good fit” feature (your click means you think the person is a good fit for the chapter) makes it quick and easy to share your opinions during the busy days of recruitment.

We’ve also increased the size of the picture thumbnails so it’s easier to recognize faces and identify people you’ve met when browsing through the list of potential new members. And, to save you even more time (and sanity), we now show a list of the most recently added potential new members on your Home page so everyone can stay up to date.

Forums and Comments
Break out the champagne and choose a designated driver (“not it!”), because it’s about to get crazy up in hrrre! The “like” button has launched on ChapterBoard! You can now “like” topics and comments anywhere on ChapterBoard (forum, calendar events, and recruitment). And to make life just a little bit easier, when you click on an unread forum topic the page will load to the last comment you read instead of the top. Small change? Yes, but a godsend for all you hardcore forum readers out there (you know who you are).

As always, we love to hear feedback and suggestions so get in touch.

ChapterBoard featured on KillerStartUps.com!

Is ChapterBoard a killer start up? We all like to think so! Check out our feature on KillerStartUps.com, and if you think ChapterBoard is a killer start up, vote for us! The voting is more for bragging rights than anything else, but hey, who doesn’t like to brag?
